Rayner is a carefree young man who tries to come across as a lazy irresponsible jerk. This keeps people from expecting too much from him and tends to get people to underestimate him. Which is how he likes it.For his own part he's usually happiest drifting from Shadow to Shadow, indulging in random acts of kindness. If he sees a wrong or an evil, he'll try and take it on in a quick and effective fashion as he can so he can get back to relaxing and playing cards. He is trying to improve his skills to take on his Uncle Random.
So as the battle ends Rayner finds himself rather feeling hollow. His revenge for his true love was finalized but his Uncle Random was right, it didn't make it any easier. Then his father Bleys decides that he is the only one fit to rule Amber. With Rayner pleadings going on deaf ear, Bleys leaves saying that he plans on returning to claim Amber.
